Estonian National Symphony Orchestra
Conductor KRISTJAN JÄRVI
Kristjan Järvi – a generous musician without blinkers or boundaries, the archetype of an artist in the 21st century. In order to realize his innovative ideas he has creative outlets all around the world: as principal conductor of the MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Gstaad Festival Orchestra, as founder-conductor of his New York-based classical-hip-hop-jazz group Absolute Ensemble, and as founder and conductor of the Baltic Sea Youth Philharmonic. He also works with orchestras from around the world as a guest conductor.
“One of the greatest experiences of this music year was an ENSO concert conducted by Kristjan Järvi /…/. ENSO has not performed at such a high level at any other time during the year. Kristjan Järvi possesses the quintessential characteristics that transform a conductor into a true leader.” (Nele-Eva Steinfeld, Sirp, 04.12.2015). Last season, it was namely under the baton of Kristjan Järvi that ENSO was broadcast for the first time on the international TV channel Mezzo. The orchestra will have their first tour of China just before Christmas 2016, with Kristjan Järvi.
At the “Swan Lake” concert, the Estonian audience will hear the first programme of ENSO’s tour of China. For the first time in Estonia, the orchestra will perform Kristjan Järvi’s suite: arrangements of the music of Tchaikovsky’s ballet “Swan Lake”. The conductor has said, “It is a unique opportunity for the concert listener to not only hear certain popular numbers from the ballet, but also to enjoy the complete musical narrative itself unfold in a dramatic symphonic context that works without the choreography. In fact, I have included selections that are often cut even in ballet performances, such as many virtuoso violin parts.”
Concerts in Tallinn are produced by ENSO, concerts in Jõhvi and Tartu in cooperation with Eesti Kontsert.
