ENSO is preparing for its third American tour, accompanied by their current and former principal conductors, Neeme Järvi and Arvo Volmer. Only a couple of days before their departure, works to be performed on the American tour will be presented to the home audience at the concert “Tallinn → Ann Arbor”. The name of the concert makes reference to one of the performances in the State of Michigan during a concert tour that extends from Florida to California.
Triin Ruubel, leader of ENSO, will play solo violin for the Mendelssohn violin concerto. She has gained recognition as an energetic leader of the orchestra as well as a violin virtuoso. She debuted as a soloist with ENSO at the opening concert of the 2015/16 season, performing the Violin Concerto by Sibelius under the baton of Neeme Järvi. She has also performed as a soloist with other orchestras both Estonian and international. Ruubel is a member of various chamber ensembles and teaches at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre.
The concert will be conducted by Arvo Volmer, the long-time principal conductor and artistic director of the Estonian National Opera, the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and the Oulu Sinfonia. He has worked with ENSO for 30 years: from 1993 to 2001 as its principal conductor. From the 2014/15 season he has been working as the principal conductor of the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento in northern Italy.

The concert “Tallinn → Ann Arbor” will fly Estonia’s premier orchestra on tour in the United States for the third time, and “Tallinn → Shanghai” to China and Hong Kong. The concerts are conducted by Arvo Volmer, the former principal conductor of ENSO and the current principal conductor of the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento, and Leif Segerstam, one of the most renowned Finnish conductors who regularly works as a guest conductor with symphony orchestras all over the world and conducts performances in the New York Metropolitan Opera, London Royal Opera House, La Scala in Milan and others. In recent years Segerstam has been working as the principal conductor of the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra.
Paris and Los Angeles, metropolises of Europe and the United States, are brought to audiences through the compositions by Igor Stravinsky. It was in these two cities that the cosmopolitan composer lived for the longest time.
One of the most original younger generation pianists, Víkingur Ólafsson, comes to Tallinn from Reykjavik, Iceland, the northernmost capital of the world, bringing Estonian and Icelandic musicians and music together on stage.
