Mail Sildos has graduated from Tallinn Conservatoire (now named Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre) in the class of violin with prof. Endel Lippus in 1981 and began her career in the Estonian State Symphony Orchestra. Soon after that she became interested in baroque violin and questions of early music interpretation, she is constantly participating in different early music projects in Estonia and Finland. Since 1989 she is a member of the Tallinn Baroque Orchestra (since 1996 one of the concertmasters) participating also in the work of Opus X Helsinki, Estonian-Finnish Baroque Orchestra etc. She has attended the early music interpretation and baroque violin master courses by Lucy van Dael (Amsterdam) and Capita Selecta Amsterdam.
With different orchestras and ensembles Mail Sildos has performed in Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Faroe Islands, Latvia, Lithuania, England, Germany, Austria, Italy, Russia (and former Soviet Union), France, Holland etc. She worked as a violin and viola da gamba player in the ensemble Hortus Musicus in 1984–1995, as a project manager in the concert agency Concerto Grosso in 1994–2003.
In 1992 she founded baroque ensemble Corelli Consort, with the aim to give concerts in the historical places (churches, manor houses, castles, nobility dwellings) and introduce the audience the wonderful music by baroque composers, almost forgotten in Estonia, on period instruments.
In 2004 she started with the concert agency Corelli Music, now constantly organizing concerts for CC as well as for many Estonian and foreign musicians. Since Christmas 2006 Corelli Baroque Orchestra has participated in performances of great vocal works in the series of concerts “Church Holidays in St.Mary’s Land”.
Mail Sildos is the member of Association of Estonian Professional Musicians (2007–2009 also a member of the board).
