On Friday, September 17th, 2004, at 7 pm in Estonia Concert Hall OPENING CONCERT OF THE SEASON In programme: Tormis - Overture No. 2 Brahms - Concerto for violin, cello and orchestra Shostakovich - Symphony No. 15 Estonian National Symphony Orchestra Conductor: NIKOLAY ALEXEEV Soloist are the young stars of the international stages: VIVIANE HAGNER (violin, Germany) JAN-ERIK GUSTAFSSON (cello, Finland) The season 2004/05 is the fourth season to the Russian conductor Nikolay Alexeev as the chief conductor of ERSO. The concert introduces the last symphonic works by Brahms and Shostakovich - compositions that combine within themselves life and creative experiences of the composers. Young violinist Viviane Hagner has been compared to the world-famous Anne-Sophie Mutter - calm and statuesque, with a broad, powerful tone. "Viviane Hagner has a resourceful technique, and her tone is special: vibrant, but slightly dark in color, almost plaintive." The New York Times Jan-Erik Gustafsson is the winner of several international competitions. He has performed in Estonia many times. With ERSO he has performed the Cello Concerto by Schumann.
