Eduard Tubin (1905–1982), the foremost composer of 20th century, is basically known as a symphonist. His style is characterized by a strong individuality, a firm unity of content and form; what is most striking in the combination of an Estonian folk music idiom with the expressive techniques of the 20th century music. Tubin considered the violin one of the most expressive instruments and he used it as a solo instrument in many of his symphonies and other works.
