“For me, writing music is another way of loving this world.” (Erkki-Sven Tüür)
On October 16, Erkki-Sven Tüür’s birthday, concertgoers can get their share of this love by listening to two of his earlier works as well as to the Estonian premiere of his new Symphony No 7 Pietas. The world premiere of the symphony was on June 18 in Alte Oper, Frankfurt, where it was performed by hr-Sinfonieorchester
and the choir of Norddeutsche Rundfunk conducted by Paavo Järvi. In September, Paavo Järvi also performs the symphony with Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and May Festival Choir in the
United States. The symphony is dedicated to His Holiness Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso. “There are moments, very special moments, when it seems to me that my music knows more about me and
the world than I do.” (Erkki-Sven Tüür)
