In 2010 the musical world celebrates Gustav Mahler’s 150th birthday, with the 100th anniversary of his death in the following year.

The programme of ERSO for this concert season includes three of Gustav Mahler’s symphonies. Conducted by Arvo Volmer, the previous principal conductor of ERSO, the Seventh Symphony forms a trilogy with the Fifth, and the Sixth that are going to be performed in February 2010 (conductor Eri Klas) and in December 2009 (conductor Nikolai Alexeev). The Seventh is the most advanced among his symphonies on the road to modernism. Mahler’s Symphony No. 7 is not known to have been performed in Estonia before.
