This concert is dedicated to the 110th anniversary of the world-famous Estonian double bass virtuoso Ludvig Juht. Juht had a hugely successful career as a solist and was the leading double bass player at the Boston Symphony Orchestra for many years. The Double Bass Concerto by the Estonian composer Eduard Tubin was commissioned by Ludvig Juht himself.
The solo instrument of the concert is a double bass that is rarely used as one in classical music. The outstanding and skillful double bass solo with some jazzy influences is performed by the Swedish double bass virtuoso Håkan Ehrén. He has performed the Concerto many times and has also recorded it for the recording company BIS.

The concert is also the remembrance concert of the Estonians who escaped to Sweden by boat in autumn, 1944. Amongst them were the composer Eduard Tubin and the chief conductor of ERSO of that time, Olav Roots.
