ATTENTION, PERCUSSION! Festival Percussion Plus 2016

Erkki-Sven Tüür: "Percussionist Heigo Rosin has touched me deeply. In addition to his natural musical ability I admire his concentration and perseverance, thanks to which even the most technically complicated works sound convincing and spontaneous. Such energetic, free flowing passionate interpretation is what every composer would like to experience in the performance of their works."

A showy and diverse percussion concert will open with Clues written by Tatjana Kozlova-Johannes. The internationally acclaimed Tides, which was written twenty years ago by one of the most renowned Scandinavian composers of his generation, Norwegian Rolf Wallin, is an exciting challenge for six percussion soloists. Soloist in Ardor, concerto for marimba and orchestra is young Estonian marimba virtuoso Heigo Rosin.

“My heartiest congratulations to Heigo Rosin on his genuinely beautiful and exciting performance of my Marimba concerto. He plays my music with both thrilling virtuosity and with a gorgeous sound and resonance, bringing my music so perfectly to life. This was a stunning performance of my Concerto!” (Composer Eric Ewazen; USA).

“Heigo Rosin: Extremely sophisticated and virtuosic percussionist.” (Sirp)

Percussion artist Heigo Rosin (1989) is the first solo percussionist to emerge out of Estonia. Despite his young age he has appeared frequently as a soloist with numerous professional orchestras including the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra, the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, the Vanemuine Symphony Orchestra and the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra. Additionally, he has performed with different solo programs both in Estonia and abroad. There are a growing number of compositions being especially written for Heigo including works by Loïc Destremau, René Eespere, Gert-Ott Kuldpärg, Urmas Sisask and Rein Rannap. This has also been an integral factor in prompting Heigo to initiate the Estonian Percussion Music Project, the purpose of which is to introduce Estonian percussion music and composers to a worldwide audience. In 2015 Heigo was accepted into the Sponsorship Program of the Orpheum Foundation for the Advancement of Young Soloists.

PaulMägi_The concert will be conducted by the artistic director and principal conductor of Tartu Vanemuine Theatre and Uppsala Chamber Orchestra Paul Mägi, who for years was the artistic director and principal conductor of the Estonian National Opera and before that the principal conductor of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra.
