Conductor OLARI ELTS
Concert programmes by principal guest conductor for ENSO and Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Olari Elts, have always been stylish and exiting. The international press has called Elts enchantingly skilful, modest in body language, but an expressive conductor (Birmingham Post, 30/01/2011) whose “conducting style exudes intelligence and deep musicality” (Helsingin Sanomat, 23/01/2012).
This concert is a bow to Beethoven, and from among his work the overture “Coriolan” and Symphony No. 1 will be performed. In addition, the humorous “Absolute Jest” by renowned contemporary American composer, John Adams, based on fragments from scherzos from Beethoven’s later string quartets, and “Testament” by the Australian composer, viola player and conductor, Brett Dean, which also includes quotations from Beethoven’s music and is inspired by his famous “Heiligenstadt Testament”.
The concertante role in Adams’ “Absolute Jest” will be taken by the string quartet. The piece was written for the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra’s 100th season and premiered in spring 2013. So far, it has already been presented in many American venues and under the baton of the composer himself in London. Brett Dean’s piece was written in 2002, exactly 200 years after Beethoven’s “Heiligenstadt Testament”.
Tickets: 20 € / 15 €.
