Benjamin Britten. “War Requiem”, Op. 66
Benjamin Britten, an English composer and pianist, was a confirmed pacifist. One of his central works, the “War Requiem”, was dedicated to the memory of all the innocent and tragically fallen people throughout history.
The current principal conductor of the Moscow Novaya Opera Theatre, Jan Latham Koening from the United Kingdom, is a frequent visitor to several opera houses across the globe, such as Covent Garden, Opéra Bastille, Vienna State Opera, English National Opera, Bavarian State Opera, etc. He has led the most notable orchestras of the United Kingdom and conducted Britten’s “War Requiem” several times. The conductor performed to Estonian audiences for the first time in 2010 at the Birgitta festival, conducting Wagner’s opera “Lohengrin”.
