Conductor NEEME JÄRVI

The programmes by Neeme Järvi in the current season have a special focus on the music of different countries, and the concert “Dedication”, which comprises works by German, Georgian, Russian and Estonian composers, is a fine example.

Among the numerous works by renowned Georgian composer David Toradze, his Symphony No. 2 should definitely be mentioned. It is based on a poem by Galaktion Tabidze on Nikortsminda Cathedral – an architectural pearl built in the 11th century in the Rachi mountains of West-Georgia. This colourful modern symphony is dedicated to Neeme Järvi, who also conducted its premiere with the Grand Symphony Orchestra of the All-Union Radio and Central TV in Moscow in 1970. Five years later, the symphony also had its first performance in Tallinn.

Alexander Toradze, son of David Toradze, will perform as soloist in Igor Stravinsky’s neoclassical piano concerto; Alexander Toradze has gained international recognition above all for his interpretation of Russian music and has collaborated closely with many top orchestras in North-America, Europe and Russia.

Estonian music is represented in this concert by the arrangements of local folk tunes by our most important symphonic composer Eduard Tubin, where Arvo Leibur, the leader at ENSO, shall appear as soloist.
