The Spanish cellist Pablo Ferrández, who recently received the award for the Young Artist of the Year at the International Classical Music Awards, has often been referred to as one of the top cellists of our time. “He has everything: splendid technique, profound musicality and an overwhelming charisma!” – says Christoph Eschenbach, the principal conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra, based in Washington, USA. In 2015, Pablo Ferrández received the 4th place at the prestigious XV International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow; in 2013, he received the second place at the V International Paulo Cello Competition in Helsinki. Currently, he is continuing his career with internationally renowned interpreters and the world’s top orchestras. Highlights of the 2016/17 season includes Ferrández’ debut with the BBC Philharmonic and their principal conductor, his compatriot Juanjo Mena; his debut at the Berliner Philharmonie with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, collaboration with Christoph Eschenbach, Valery Gergiev, Gidon Kremer, and many others.

The prize winner of the Malko Conducting Competition 2015 and 5th Jorma Panula Conducting Competition 2012, Risto Joost has gained widespread recognition for his work both in the opera pit and on the concert stage. Since 2009, Joost has been conductor of the Estonian National Opera, principal conductor of the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra from 2012/ 2013, and the Artistic Director of the MDR Leipzig Radio Choir from 2015/16 and from spring 2016, the Artistic Director of Tallinn Philharmonic Society and the Birgitta Festival.

In the opening concert of the season, the orchestra will be joined on stage by Neeme Järvi and the violists of the Zemtsov family; a gala concert will be held to celebrate the 55th anniversary of Tallinn Music High School; and the series will also feature two monumental orchestral masterpieces: Mahler’s and Dvořák’s ninth symphonies.
