Among the works by Reinhold Glière, Russian composer from the first half of the twentieth century, the most renowned are his ballets “The Bronze Horseman” and “The Red Poppy” and his concertos for harp, French horn and coloratura soprano – the ballets have both been staged in Estonia. His most frequently performed symphony is No. 3 “Ilya Murometz”, named after the famous Russian hero, which is representative of the composer’s Late Romantic style influenced by Wagner and Scriabin.
Marko Martin, an acknowledged Estonian pianist and winner of many international competitions will be soloist for the Piano Concerto No. 2 by Camille Saint-Saëns. In addition to Estonian orchestras, he has played with the London Philharmonia Orchestra and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, and appeared at such renowned concert halls as the Barbican and Wigmore Hall in London, Musikhalle in Hamburg, Gewandhaus in Leipzig and Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto.
