Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 9 is his last completed symphony, and was composed after the grandiose Symphony No. 8, also known as “Symphony of a Thousand” and “Das Lied von der Erde” (“The Song of the Earth”).
Eri Klas, who considers Mahler’s Symphony No. 9 one of his favourite symphonies, will conduct. Eri Klas – renowned opera and orchestra conductor, long-standing artistic director and principal conductor of the Estonian National Opera, principal conductor of the Royal Swedish Opera and Novaya Opera Theatre in Moscow and the first guest conductor of the Finnish National Opera. During his career as a conductor spanning nearly half a century more than a hundred symphony and opera orchestras have played under his baton. Eri Klas is Chairman of the Board at the Estonian National Opera and Artistic Director of the Tallinn Philharmonic Society.
