Conductor MIKKO FRANCK
Tchaikovsky’s ballet “The Nutcracker” belongs to many annual Christmas programmes, but the ballet by Richard Strauss “Whipped Cream” is relatively seldom heard. Nevertheless, it is possible to find several similarities in both the story line and the music of the pieces. Both ballets have had orchestral suites arranged later, and so we can hear in Tchaikovsky’s rendition how the Flowers and the Sugar Plum Fairy dance alongside Strauss’ interpretation of the dance of the Little Pralines and Coffee, of course, followed by the waltz of the Whipped Cream as anticipated.
The Swedish pianist Per Tengstrand, who performed with ENSO for the first time in Tallinn and Stockholm in 2005, plays Wilhelm Stenhammar’s Piano Concerto No. 1.
