The playing of Anne Akiko Meyers is ‘what it always has been: a national treasure. She is a musical wizard, with astonishing access to every kind of expressive colour. Whether within a phrase or on just a single note, she can change tone colour in a micro-second from smooth grain to rough, from dark to radiant, from thoughtful to assertive. And she can, like magic, bring new work to vibrant life.’ (San Diego Union-Tribune)

Meyers, who is one of the world’s most famous violinists, was at the top of the Billboard chart only a few years ago. In the autumn of 2018, she was invited to perform at the opening ceremony of the Arvo Pärt Centre.

Fratres, which is one of Pärt’s first tintinnabuli-style works, will be performed in addition to the violin miniatures Darf ich … and Passacaglia. Kristjan Järvi and Anne Akiko Meyers have also recorded the violin works of Arvo Pärt that they will perform with the Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra.

The third symphony was revolutionary for the creativity of both Pärt and Sibelius. Pärt’s was born in the middle of a long period of silence, which paved the way for his unique tintinnabuli-style. For Sibelius, as well, the third symphony marks the formation of his unique style and separation from the romantic-patriotic sound of his first symphonies. Symphony No. 3 by Pärt is dedicated to Neeme Järvi. The piece was premiered by him and ENSO in 1972. Symphony No. 3 by Sibelius was premiered 65 years earlier by the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by the composer himself.
