This season’s opening aims to map the position of Estonian music within Europe. Erkki-Sven Tüür’s Sow the Wind…, commissioned by the world’s leading orchestras – Orchestre de Paris and the Wiener Symphoniker, will be played in Estonia for the first time, and feature the most well-known Estonian women from Vienna and Berlin – singer Annely Peebo and conductor Kristiina Poska.
Accompanied by the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, they will perform Wagner’s captivatingly intimate “Wesendonck Songs”. This composition, born out of forbidden love, is filled with both pain and pleasure (from pain). Wagner’s music and the poetry of his patron’s wife come together to form the agonising fruit of an inescapable relationship.
