Conductor CHRISTIAN VÁSQUEZ
The stellar career of the young Venezuelan violinist and conductor Christian Vásquez started thanks to Venezuela’s unique music education system, “El Sistema”. This has educated several generations of great musicians who then played in a symphony orchestra already at an early age, including Gustavo Dudamel, the principal conductor of the Lost Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra. Christian Vásquez started his musical journey as a violinist, and became a conductor ten years ago. By now, he has conducted several renowned orchestras in Europe, Asia and America, including the London Philharmonia Orchestra, the Hague Residentie Orchestra, the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, Camerata Salzburg, and the Tokyo and Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestras. In autumn 2016, he started his fourth season as the principal conductor of the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra; in Venezuela, he will be conducting the Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra, with whom he has toured successfully in Europe and in Asia.
In Bartók’s Piano Concerto No. 3, the soloist is Kristiina Rokashevich, a finalist in this year’s “Classical Stars” competition, and winner of ENSO’s special award. She has won top prizes at several international piano competitions, including the main prize and the audience award at the Brant International Piano Competition held in Birmingham in 2015. In 2014, she made it to the final of the competition for Estonian pianists. Kristiina Rokashevich has been living in London since 2010, continuing her studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
