This time, the concerts of the Baltic Symphony Festival will take place in Tallinn and Riga. Guntis Kuzma, conductor of the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, will conduct the joint orchestra of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. The soloist is Triin Ruubel-Lilleberg, leader of ENSO and a laureate of several international competitions. In 2017, the charismatic soloist and leader won the Annual Award of the Music Endowment of the Cultural Endowment of Estonia.
Guntis Kuzma: ‘It was very inspiring to me to conduct the Chamber Orchestra of the Baltic Symphony Festival in November 2017 and to share some of the great joy of the musicians – both during the concert and after it. Close cooperation between the three Baltic symphony orchestras is especially important now, when the Baltic Contemporary Music Festival is being launched and interest in what is happening here is growing.’
In addition to Tõnu Kõrvits’ lovely-sounding but sad Tears-Fantasy, which is, according to the composer himself, inspired by the image of the tears of music of English Renaissance composer John Dowland, Pēteris Vasks’ Vox amoris will be performed. The piece is one of his most beautiful opuses and it is a dedication to the almighty power of longing and love. In the second half of the concert, Mendelssohn’s truly vital Scottish Symphony will be performed.
