The opening concert ‘Tallinn–Vienna’ of the concert series ‘City Lights’ is the starting point of ENSO’s Central European tour: only two days later, ENSO and Neeme Järvi will give a concert in the Golden Hall of the Wiener Musikverein. Next to Konzerthaus Berlin, this is the second venue considered one of the most prominent in the world that Maestro Järvi and ENSO are visiting. Music by Bruckner holds a special place this season, because from Vienna, they will head to the International Bruckner Festival in Linz. Brucknerfest has been held since 1974, and this year, it features the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra conducted by Neeme Järvi, alongside the Bruckner Orchestra Linz and conductor Markus Poschner, the Munich Philharmonic and conductor Valery Gergiev, the Orchestre des Champs-Élysées with Philippe Herreweghe, the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, and many others.
The soloist of the concert in Tallinn is Zee Zee (real name Zhang Zuo), who has been praised for her bright and expressive interpretations (Belgischer Rundfunk); her creative perfection is recognised as a powerful, passionate, and compelling representation of pure artistry (the Los Angeles Times).
Zee Zee was born in China and educated in the New York Eastman School of Music, the Julliard School, and the Baltimore Peabody Institute, where she is currently studying under Alfred Brendel, the absolute leader of the piano world. She has won grand prizes from piano competitions in Shenzhen, Salt Lake City, and Kharkiv, and a prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels in 2013. Zee Zee has had an incredible career, performing with many leading orchestras in the world, including the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Philharmonic, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Her debut with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra was in the opening concert of the 2017/18 season, performing the Saint-Saëns Piano Concerto No. 2 conducted by Neeme Järvi.
